Iowa Assisted Outpatient Treatment Learning Collaborative
The Iowa PCA, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS), is hosting a free learning collaborative for anyone interested in learning more about Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) in Iowa.
AOT is a community-based treatment model for individuals living with a serious mental illness who are eligible for court-ordered outpatient treatment, experiencing recurring crises or challenges staying engaged in treatment, and in need of coordinated care and supports to promote recovery and community stability.

Iowa is exploring opportunities to strengthen understanding, coordination, and implementation of AOT across systems. As interest in AOT continues to grow, there is a need for shared learning among behavioral health providers, judicial partners, housing organizations, law enforcement, state agencies, and other stakeholders.

A shared understanding of AOT and its potential role in Iowa’s Behavioral Health Service System.
Increased awareness of implementation models, partnerships, and factors including sustainability and community readiness.
New or strengthened cross-system connections among behavioral health, healthcare, justice, crisis, housing, and community partners.
Practical insights from peers, experts, and stakeholders to inform future AOT planning and implementation discussions in Iowa.
